As from 15 November the Uruguayan air terminal, which is almost four times higher than at present and has capacity for three million passengers a year, will be fully operational.
"Uruguay still friends and families will greet the new arrivals, or dismiss those who leave, so the terminal provides great spaces for passengers," said architect Rafael Vinoly, by the design of the work In an interview with El Pais newspaper.
The opening of the airport will have the presence of President of Uruguay, Tabaré Vázquez, and the head of Group Corporate America, Eduardo Eurnekian, among others.
The station area, located a few kilometers from the city of Montevideo, occupies an area of 45,000 square meters and has a dome 400 meters which gives a peculiar physiognomy.
The outdoor space of the main building is divided into three sectors: public parking, with capacity for 1,200 vehicles, and two areas with restricted access to technical and service sectors.
Its interior is notable for the wide open spaces and natural light it receives through a glass surface of 8,000 square meters at the top.
Have eight gates, four of them equipped with remote sleeves with 20 positions for the movement of passengers.
The baggage handling system is fully automated. The conveyor belts hold baggage from check-in area for the items, exit to the courtyard of baggage.
For arrivals, there will be three bands for the baggage claim carousel one with a double to serve major flights.
It will also have a mall or "Duty Free Shop," according to the Corporation, will be "the largest in South America" with an area of 3,000 square meters.
